Welcome to the Southworth Planetarium! The planetarium was built in 1970 with funding from the Southworth family. Over the intervening decades it has gone from being an astronomy classroom for students of the University of Southern Maine, to becoming a science center visited by nearly 15,000 guests per year. Our primary attraction is our 360 degree dome shows and star tours, offered daily (see our home page for showtimes). Our gallery hosts historic posters and informational guides, with artwork based on space imagery and hands on activity slated for installation soon. We also share informative lectures, musical performances and other special events throughout the year. Please keep an eye on our website for coming events. The Southworth Planetarium is located in the basement of the Science Building on the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus. The actual building address is 70 Falmouth Street. You are always welcome to call us at 207-780-4249 or e-mail us. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have about our offerings and facility. (less) ... Read more
